Rosarito is a beautiful, more subdued version of Tijuana, Mexico. For those who seek to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life but find themselves in overcrowded beaches, Rosarito is the place to go to. It’s an ideal place for foreigners who seek relaxation as well as those who have lots of activities in mind.
In Rosarito, the main attraction is, of course, the beach fronts. Spanning almost 40 miles, Rosarito’s beaches are immensely popular among tourists and investors alike. People can be seen frolicking the beaches and indulging in the most famous activity in the city… sunbathing!
The main tourist attraction in Rosarito is perhaps the Fox Studios Baja, located just south of town at km 32.8 on the free highway to Ensenada. This studio was originally created for the filming of the movie Titanic, but has since functioned to accommodate a score of other movies as well as become a destination point for movie buffs who specifically travel across the border in order to see the famous movie set. The original set of the Titanic, which utilizes a jaw-dropping seventeen-million-gallon ocean-fronted water tank, has since been used for other noteworthy films such as Pearl Harbor and Deep Blue Sea, among others. And if you’re lucky, you might even end up seeing a famous movie star if you chance upon a movie filming during your visit!
For those seeking a bit of culture, the Museum of Playas de Rosarito is guaranteed to satisfy your needs. This history museum houses artifacts dating back to the pre-Hispanic era, specifically those of the Kumiai tribe. The kumiai tribe is actually the first to settle in Rosarito and named it, “Uacatucay”, which translates to “The Big House”. The Museum will definitely give you a taste of what early life in Rosarito was like before the period of colonialization.
The Rosarito Beach Hotel is another interesting stop for tourists. This hotel was the first ever hotel built in Rosarito and is considered the granddaddy of them all. Built by the Barbachano family in 1925, this upscale hotel still exhibits a few traces of the old design when it was built.
As mentioned above, Rosarito Beach is the main attraction itself and life in Rosarito is centered around its beaches. A typical fun-filled day in Rosarito Beach includes Papas and Beer, where beach volleyball and chowing down on seafood is a must.
At night, Rosarito comes to life as the clubs are opened and filled with fun-seekers, both foreign and local, who are looking to party until the wee hours of the morning. Indeed, the fun never stops in Rosarito; all the more reason why you should consider coming for a visit.
