Shopping

Rosarito is famous for its wide expanse of beaches stretching out almost 40 miles long. In fact, the main tourist drawer for this little city are the beaches themselves. During a typical day, tourists can be found playing beach volleyball, swimming, surfing, fishing, engaging in water sports, sun bathing, or just taking in the sun while enjoying a cold beer and some Papas. But for those looking to do something else, shopping can prove to be a very fulfilling activity in Rosarito.

There are so many beautiful hand-crafted works of art that can be found in Rosarito. One of them is pottery. On the main highway, past Puerto Nuovo, dozens of shops selling local pottery can be found. These shops showcase the local talent that Rosarito has, as well as beautiful pottery can be had for a bargain. In addition, these shops also sell rustic furniture and ironworks; all handcrafted. These beautiful crafts are a lot cheaper (in price, not quality) outside Rosarito as compared to the ones being sold inside the town.

Along the main boulevard in Rosarito Beach, you will find many rustic furniture shops, ceramics shops and stained glass shops. Some fine artwork can also be found along this strip, which goes to show how many talented artists are located in Rosarito.

If you’re looking for some handicrafts and other souvenirs to bring home, there is a little central market near the El Nido Restaurant which sells such hadicrafts at a good price.

Rosarito’s main street is also, by far, the best place to buy Mexican furniture. Southwestern, pigskin, hacienda, willow, hand-carved and hand-painted furniture, and custom pieces are all made locally. The selection is enormous and shops can be seen on both sides of the street up to the whole length of the city.

Of course not everyone will be looking for handicrafts and art works alone. After all, Rosarito is also famed for its nightlife and some tourists may want to buy clothes and accessories they can wear to the clubs. There are various shopping centers and malls around town that can help tourists with this problem, and fashion in Rosarito is never outdated so there is nothing to worry about.

The main thing to remember when shopping in Rosarito is that one must have bargaining skills in order to get a good deal. Because bargaining has long been part of trade life in Rosarito, most shopkeepers, if not all, sell their wares at a higher price, expecting tourists to haggle. If you don’t, then you might end up getting a bad deal. There are ways of haggling effectively and one must at least have a sense of how to do it properly in order to have a satisfying shopping experience in Rosarito.

Shopping in Rosarito is definitely a fun, relaxing way to spend the day and pass the time away. Not only are you sure to get good quality products, but in shopping, you contribute to Rosarito’s economy as well.
